6th Grade Assistant Principal: Mrs. Florio

Tanya Florio was born in Detroit, Michigan, and began her educational journey in Pinellas County as a sixth-grade student at Tarpon Springs Middle School in 1988.

A graduate of Tarpon Springs High School, Mrs. Florio went on to attend the University of South Florida. She completed her student teaching internship at Joseph L. Carwise Middle School under the mentorship of Brenda Dorsett. Following her internship, she returned to her alma mater, Tarpon Springs High School, where she began her teaching career in 2000.

Mrs. Florio taught Social Studies and Senior Project at Tarpon Springs High School for 14 years before transitioning into school leadership. She served as an assistant principal at Dunedin High School from 2014 to 2016 and then as an assistant principal at Tarpon Springs Middle School from 2016 to 2018.

She later returned to Joseph L. Carwise Middle School as a Social Studies teacher, where she taught for five years before being named Assistant Principal of sixth grade in 2022. Today, she serves as both the Sixth Grade Assistant Principal and Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Carwise Middle School.

Mrs. Florio is passionate about working with students at every stage of their educational journey and is committed to fostering a positive, engaging learning environment. Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, reading, playing volleyball, and spending time at the beach and in the mountains. Most of all, she cherishes time with her family—her husband, Robert, and their children, Samantha, Kristopher, Kendall, Jacob, Vivian and Alexander.
